Thomas Cabot, 53, was charged with cruelty to animals after police freed his dog and cat from his car inside the Bally's Atlantic City parking garage on Thursday, July 13, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Temperatures rose into the high 80s on Thursday.
At approximately 6 p.m., a bystander called 911 to report seeing a dog and a cat inside a car with the windows rolled up for an extended period of time, the prosecutor said.
An investigation by Atlantic City police found that Cabot had left the animals inside the car without adequate water, ventilation, or cooling since early that same morning, the prosecutor said.
Both animals survived and were treated.
The Prosecutor’s Office would like to remind the public that any pets that can no longer be properly cared for, or are no longer wanted, can be surrendered to the Atlantic County Animal Shelter in Pleasantville or the Humane Society in Atlantic City.
